WHAT DID THE RESEARCH LOOK LIKE?

We conducted two blind taste tests to check how respondents evaluate the quality of canned fish products from well-known brands on the Polish market. We tested those who consume fish products on a daily basis.

WHAT IS A BLIND TEST?

It is a type of test in which the evaluator intentionally does not receive information about who the producer is or what its name is.

WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE STUDY?

We conducted two taste tests on a sample of 700 people who consume canned fish at least once a month. The first test took place in March 2022 and the second in April 2022

WHAT DID WE TEST?

We tested two Graal products – mackerel filets in tomato sauce and sprat in tomato sauce – and compared them to similar products from four other canned fish brands.

The comparative analysis concerned Graal products versus four major brand competitors. The respondents evaluated Graal products and two other competitors by comparing sets.

We used the CAPI method to conduct the test – It is a consumer test using a questionnaire displayed on a tablet.

Most of the respondents rated their overall impression after tasting Graal mackerel as very good or good.

The respondents had positive opinions about the tested fish conserves. In most cases, they awarded good or very good grades for each dimension of taste. However, a comparison of the results revealed differences in the preferences: Graal mackerel filets outperformed the other participants in the tests. Graal sprats were also rated very good or good compared to competitive products in each of the dimensions tested.
